It was another early start to try and avoid the full heat of the day. Setting off at 7.15am we soon reached the start of our stage on the North Downs Way.

We walked through Puttenham during the school run and were soon watching golfers teeing off on the pristine Puttenham golf course. After what seemed like an awfully long way, we reached the outskirts of Guildford and onto the spectacular Surrey Hills.

Pretty much the whole route is through beautiful woodland, which gave welcome respite from the blazing sunshine, as well as offering regular spectacular views over the Surrey Hills (Newlands and Blatchford Downs especially offering some stunning vistas).
Phil was struggling a little today with blisters but soldiered on admirably and our spirits were lifted when we saw the expanse of vines on the Denbies estate which signalled we were nearing our destination for the day.

St Martha on the Hill - the church was shut, which was disappointing but we still took a break on some shady benches and admired the beautiful views.

We arrived just after 3pm and freshened up prior to being given a tour of the wine making facility and enjoyed a sample of some of their wine varieties. Pilgrimming slightly differently, but it's not our fault that we are not getting ale from the monasteries anymore, so wine will have to do!!
The Stats
We covered 34.8 km in 6 hours 53 minutes. The extra 3 km being the distance we walked to get back to the trail from our hotel.
